CEO Mark Zuckerberg has announced Meta Verified, which is a paid verification system for Facebook and Instagram. This follows Twitter’s move after Elon Musk took over.

Zuckerberg said that the new service will be first available in Australia and New Zealand this week. The paid verification service will cost USD11.99 (~Php700) a month for web and USD14.99 (~Php800) for iOS and Android devices.

Other than getting the special blue badge, those who will pay the extra fee will be treated with “extra impersonation protection”, as well as direct access to customer support and better reach.

Before getting the badge, Meta will have to first verify the user’s identity using government ID documents. This will help prevent the existence of verified impersonations, which was a big issue on Twitter when they first rolled out the issue.

What’s more, the user should also have a posting history and must be at least 18 years old.

Meta added that they will also offer “exclusive stickers” on Facebook, Instagram Stories, and Reels.

This will help Meta generate more revenue. Last November, the company had to lay off 11,000 employees, which amounts to 13% of its total workforce, due to the dropping ad revenue and economic issues.
