Ethical Christmas Shopping – Part 1

Ethical Christmas shopping  – now there’s a challenge

For a lot of us Christmas gift shopping involves trudging around shopping malls looking at the same old stuff – Christmas jumpers, toiletry bundles in baskets, candles made out of synthetic fragrance, pyjamas made the other side of the world with varying levels of fairness for the workers who made them – I could go on!  But, how about seeking out fair-trade, sustainable and ethical gifts?  They are all together harder to find!

If, like me, you would like to use ethical make up made from natural ingredients then you probably will not find it on the high street.  Small, independent retailers are the most likely place but it is very rare to find a whole range.  Much better to search online for retailers like Glow Organic.

Founded by Mel Jenkinson a natural beauty advocate and make up artist, who believes in only stocking ethical products with complete provenance.  All products are not tested on animals and only use the most natural and non synthetic ingredients.  In Mel’s words

Each and every product sold through Glow Organic has been personally tested and approved by myself. I will only sell products that I am happy to use myself, and that I consider to be high performing and high quality.

I am especially liking the idea of 14e Aloe Nourish foundation

  • A nourishing, luxuriously creamy liquid foundation with added skincare benefits to improve the skin. Providing a medium, buildable coverage whilst feeling totally weightless and giving a satin, semi matte finish. The magical plant based ingredients help to heal breakouts, improve early signs of ageing and moisturise the skin offering a fusion of skincare and makeup in one product. This foundation also provides an SPF 23.

  • Key Ingredients:

  • Aloe Vera – Soothing for sensitive skin, calms redness, heals blemishes, provides a lightweight feel.

  • Gotu Kola – Native to India, this herb helps to heal the skin and reduce the formation of scar tissue, as well as helping to prevent fine lines and early signs of ageing.

  • 30ml. Samples available.

Another make up brand I have been coveting isScreenshot 2018-11-25 at 13.38.28

I love the idea of this brand as it not only looks beautiful but it is the perfect ethical purchase as you are able to refill the cream foundation in the compact again and again.

Perfect your skin without a single synthetic ingredient. This award-winning cream foundation delivers versatile coverage solutions thanks to a blendable, buildable formula infused with skincare-level elements like organic coconut, jojoba oil and sweet almond seed oils. Because this product is free of silicones and petroleums, it’s important to apply to well-moisturized skin. Available in a refillable compact.

Key Ingredients:

Sweet Almond Seed Oil – A natural emollient used to moisturise and promote skin elasticity

Jojoba Seed Oil – Adds moisture to the skin
