Global leader in printing technology Epson is helping its customers authenticate the legitimacy of the ink product they are buying with an app—the Epson Genuine Ink PH app. The mobile application is available for both iOS and Android users.
A long-term problem in the industry, counterfeit inks have been a mainstay in the market for their cheaper prices. But they come at the expense of poor print quality, voided warranties, and in some cases, the cause of malfunctions of printers. The Epson Genuine Ink PH app seeks to address that problem by offering users the solution in the palm of their hand.
Epson Philippines President Masako Kusama said that Epson is dedicated to giving the customers the “highest quality products and services.” The launch of the Epson Genuine Ink PH app, she said, reflects the company’s commitment to safeguarding the customers and guaranteeing that they are getting the “best possible quality prints.”

Employing a two-step comprehensive approach, Epson first educates the buyers on how to authenticate their purchase by looking for the hologram sticker placed on the side of the Genuine Ink boxes. This helps the consumers find out if the product they are buying is not fake.
Specifically, buyers are taught to touch the temperature-sensitive part of the mark, which is the blue “genuine” section of the label. Rubbing on this several times causes the label itself to lighten in color. Another is to expose the light-sensitive element to light, which is the silver portions at the top and bottom part of the sticker, subsequently revealing the “Epson” logo in the process. Third, there is the box’s changing color, which shifts in various hues, when tilted.
The second approach requires the use of the authentication app itself, which simply involves the scanning of the QR code or the input of the Random Number printed on the hologram sticker.
